Song Just a Closer Walk with Thee
5-Minute Speaker Tim Emmer
Genesis 32:22-26 & Alcoholics Anonymous pp. 472-475
22 The same night he got up and took his two wives, his two maids, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 He took them and sent them across the stream, and likewise everything that he had.
“Up until the moment I realized I might have to give up drinking, I had believed I was perfectly happy. I had a fine life, a good job, a nice place to live, a car, friends, all the things I thought I needed in life.” Alcoholics Anonymous p. 472
24 Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until daybreak.
“For very brief moments I somehow realized that giving up the booze was probably in my future. With that realization came fear and so many questions. How will I live? What will I do with my life? Certainly, a life without booze meant I would not have fun, surely I would not be fun.” Alcoholics Anonymous p. 472
25 When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he struck him on the hip socket; and Jacob’s hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him.
“My new doctor explained that I had a disease called cirrhosis of the liver...the picture he painted was bleak ... if I wanted to live, I was going to have to prove that alcohol was no longer going to be part of my life.” Alcoholics Anonymous p. 473
26 Then he said, “Let me go, for the day is breaking.” But Jacob said, “I will not let you go, unless you bless me.”
“Unquestionably it was only because of the program of Alcoholics Anonymous that I was able to let go of that resentment. I actually found an abundance of peace and serenity during the months preceding my surgery. The physical being has certainly undergone a transformation, but the major transformation has been spiritual. The hopelessness has been replaced by an abundant hope and a sincere faith.” Alcoholics Anonymous p. 475

Lord’s Prayer (Unison) https://youtu.be/kij_ivgPoR0
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
“We are powerless over the fact that God loves us …
and that God’s love for us is unmanageable.”
